CP; I can't remember what program you use but on PSP X I put both pictures onto a blank template, flood fill that template with a colour from both the pictures and then go onto the Selection tool, make sure the mode is set to Replace and select the piece I want to fade and press the Return button on the keypad. It takes a while to mess about with the amount in the Feather section so that it doesn't take too much of the picture away and then I do the same with the other picture(s) and they've faded together.
And if they still don't look right I'll make one more transparent.
