My original opinion after scan was "what a bastard" but upon further reflection I realised that I do feel a little sorry for him - looking upon it in his way he has been trying his hardest to advance his carreer and his daughter becomes addictted to morphine and loses her respectable job to start working around murderers and rapists and as soon as she seems like she's back on the wagon she lets eight violent people get out, apparently only because she has a crush on one of them and begins using drugs again.
Although he's too mean for me to feel more than a little sorry for him.

Yeah I guess I feel a little sorry for him, since his daughter hasn't exactly been a shining example with her drugs and fondness for getting a bit too close with a certain prisoner. Sara made the decision to work in an environment that would make her stand out, and her behaviour would reflect on her Father. But saying that Tancredi does come across as very selfish, like how he was acting with Sara whne he visited her in the last episode: he was just concerned about how she would reflect on him, instead of showing any concern about her. And he just smoothed over her confession that she left the door open, which is hardly a good example to set!

ooh this forum lets you see who has voted.
But you could argue that he is protecting her (even if it is only secondary to his desire to protect himself) that he is trying to make her pin the blame onto Pope.

Yeah I suppose that so long as he's got his own interests covered, he's willing to make sure Sara is punished as least as possible for what she's done, and the best (probably only) way he knows how is to pin the blame on someone else.

He could have made sure that she was punished so that he could say "look, I'm tough on crime, I'll even punish my own daughter when she does wrong" which would make him look good to the Republicans (I'm sure he's Republican lol.)

I'd been meaning to hunt this thread out last week to say that my opinion on him was slowly improving because of how he was warning Sara about Kellerman and in the end it cost him his job and his life so I do feel quite sorry for him lol.

No I don't feel sorry for him. I think he looked upon Sara as a weak person when she attempted to kell herself, and lo and behold he's done it - but successfully. however did he do it - surely he would have wanted to make sure Sara was OK. If anything iI think its a way to ensure Sara has nothing better to do than track down Schofield.

So - anyone changed their mind now we know he was turning against TC and trying to help Lincoln?

I feel a bit sorry for him, fair enough he is trying to further his career but I think he was still trying to protect his daughter. Like some said he did his best to keep people away from her. I think it is probably difficult for anyone to deal with a daughter that is an addict because it is out of your control. He probably doesn't know how to deal with it. Plus what happened to his wife/sara's mother? Is there a story there we don't know or that I missed? That could play a role in his demeanor. Plus now we know that he was looking at Micheal's case I guess I am slowing changing my mind on him (I did hate him in the 1st series and at the beginning of this one).

hmm I'm not sure about her mother, I can't remember her being mentioned either.
