If your rug is hand knotted, I would strongly recommend against cutting the fringe. The fringe is really an extension of the warp, the vertical strands that form the structure of a rug (along with the weft and pile). If you cut the fringe, you are essentially compromising the integrity of the warp and your rug becomes extremely vulnerable to unraveling. As a professional rug restorer, I would recommend you leave the fringe as is. If you really do not like the fringe at all and do not want to leave it as is, then I recommend you sew a cotton binding on the fringe. ================ Rugs| Rug
