I think you really should not buy the expensive ebooks /scripts ... in the first place because you are a newbie and like in all other business you first have to learn a lot before you try to setup anything big.
But on the other way I would not join for all the free programs because they have one reason to be free. The reason is that they want you to join them so later on they can sell the real product to you.
In my opinion the correct way is in the middle. There are a lot of different ways to spend a little on some useful ideas which helps you to earn some bucks then you can start to optimize your scheme and after you earned some experience and some money you can look after some bigger projects.
Only make sure never spend more then you can afford even when the offer looks really promising to you.
