Family of 6 going to Disney Wo

We are planning on taking a trip to Disney World the first two weeks in December. There will be 5 adults and one child under 9. We have spoken to a travel agent about staying on the resort. However, that is rather pricey!! Any suggestions about staying off Disney property and still being shuttled to the park? Please let me know if there is anyone out there that is as thrifty as I am trying to be. I would LOVE to be able to make this trip under $7,000.00.
