I'd think that it was almost certainly Kellerman and bunch letting him out but what the news said was that the evidence against him (the murder weapon and so forth) had been compromised so that it wouldn't hold up in court anymore so they had to let him go.

I think he was let out as a trap cos Kellerman and Co were saying that LJ isn't dangerous, but it's who comes after him that is, and then when they released him they were watching him, but Lincoln paid that guy to beat LJ up so when they went to the hospital Lincoln could take him away without Kellerman noticing.

Yeah, I mean he never actually killed anyone anyway (well I guess that guy down the well in a way) but just made it look like it was him cos he was trying to get evidence to save Linc but got caught in Kellermans house. They jsut released him to get him to lead them to Linc but made up something about evidence for the news.

Technically he wasn't supposed to ever go to prison - he was supposed to be killed off near the start of the series but Kellerman managed to fuck it up.
