Chapter Four
“I’m sorry Lincoln, I’m so sorry.” Michael’s voice gave out despite the words continuing inside his head. He clenched his eyes tightly shut before opening them, only to clench them again. He had to find a way to stop the tears from falling. He couldn’t let Lincoln know that he was upset; after all, he was going to be able to cope with this, Lincoln needed to know that he was strong.
He watched Lincoln gulp as the final straps were put into place and noticed that his hands were quivering. He hadn’t seen Lincoln scared for years and the realization hit him hard, this was it. There wasn’t going to be a phone call to say that they had uncovered the whole conspiracy.
He hadn’t believed him, he’d thought Lincoln was guilty along with everyone else, and he had taken so long to put his plan together, so long to make sure that he had a back-up plan for each and every back-up plan that he hadn’t given himself enough time to save him. He bit his lip, trying not to think that, if he had turned up sooner, they could have been in Panama by now.
Lincoln, his breath now ragged, managed to catch Michael’s gaze, and he forced himself to smile, unaware that the gesture was making Michael feel worse. That it was making him feel weaker, more useless, that it was making him feel that Lincoln was still trying to be the older brother, trying to take care of him while he should be hating him, should be blaming him for not being able to save him.
He tried to return the smile but almost immediately gave up the attempt, he couldn’t let go of the hold his teeth had on his lip in case the tears escaped.
Pope, looking increasingly solemn lowered himself down to Lincoln’s level and muttered into his ear to ask him if he had any last words.
“I’m sorry Michael, I’m so sorry.” The hood was shoved on with brute force and the switch flipped.
As he saw Lincoln’s body began to jerk Michael felt all of his defences break down and he couldn’t hold back from screaming out for him, all the fury and all the pain forced into one desperate cry.
His own body started to go limp, all of its energy temporarily expended and all he could think of was that he hoped Lincoln’s death had been instantaneous and that the last thing he heard hadn’t been how much his baby brother still needed him.

Howdy guys - got another episode already (I'm getting back into writing these lol)
Chapter Five
Tweener stared at the entrance of the exercise yard, feeling his heart pulsating in his mouth, trying to make himself believe that he had done the right thing. Lincoln was a criminal, a terrorist who’d killed the vice-president’s brother and he deserved to be put to death. Anyway, he hadn’t been the one who had determined the sentence, he hadn’t known Lincoln would have escaped and ran away into the sunset if he hadn’t ruined the plan.
He tried to ignore his own thoughts as if, just by staring at him, someone would realise that he was the rat. Nobody had questioned him yet, thankfully, he’d just blended into the background with a cellmate who wasn’t interested in him and no clique to hang around in. But there was still a chance that someone else would realise what he had done, Michael especially, and it was Michael that he was waiting for.
Almost too suddenly the guards appeared, Michael barely managing to walk in-between them before being pushed back amongst his fellow convicts. Tweener watched as Sucre pulled away from his own group, walking over to Michael, trying to make eye-contact and muttering something that Tweener couldn’t hear. He attempted to move closer to them without drawing attention to himself, stopping as he made it close enough that he could hear snippets of their conversation.
“…Okay?”
Michael blinked for a moment as though he was trying to understand the question before shaking his head. His legs wobbled underneath him and they collapsed, Sucre catching him just in time before he would have collapsed onto the floor. Sucre sat down next to him, still trying to make eye-contact with an unwilling Michael.
“…Isn’t end… world.”
“Yes… is.”
“Michael…”
A collection of loud inmates passed in front of him and Tweener cursed underneath his breath, edging closer to the duo. If Michael told Sucre he was responsible then Sucre would probably tell other people and sooner or later he’d have to face Abruzzi or C-Note or T-Bag.
Ignoring his prey for a moment he looked around the yard, mentally clocking the positions of his enemies. C-Note was mooching about, glaring in Michael’s direction, Abruzzi was playing poker again, seeming as though nothing had ever changed and T-Bag… Tweener paused, a sweep of the bleachers failed to show where he was and he glanced around more, seeing him standing by himself, leaning against a wall and watching Michael, his hands loosely clenched and his lips loosely licked, his stance suddenly sent fear through Tweener’s body.
“…Tweener…”
His head snapped back to Sucre, hearing him mention his name and he felt his heart shoot from his throat to his stomach, the feeling of wanting to run away mixed with the feeling of being stuck in one place, too petrified to move. The inmates moved and he was able to hear the conversation properly.
“That doesn’t count.”
“Sure it does, you got T-Bag to leave him alone. You saved someone!”
“Lincoln, LJ, Veronica, Seth… I can’t save anyone.”
Tweener had no idea who the last three people mentioned were and he wasn’t bothered, all that mattered was that it seemed that he was being left out of the conversation.
He felt an arm slink around his waist and he couldn’t manage to hold back a yelp of surprise, spinning around to find himself facing T-Bag who, grip tightening around his waist, pulled him away from Michael who obviously hadn’t realised he had ever been there.
This was it then, the end; someone had obviously said that he was the rat. He braced himself, hoping that he’d at least be given a quick and non-erotic death.
“I think that you and I have some unfinished business.”
“We do?” He tried playing dumb, hoping that it would be enough to help him, although he had no idea how the plan would work.
“We do indeed; you see, now that Michael doesn’t have anything to offer me, there’s nothing to keep me from claiming you.”
“Oh thank god.”
They both paused, unsure how to react to the jubilant exclamation. “Thank god?”
“Err…” all the words he knew seemed to fall out of his brain, he could hardly explain to T-Bag that he was happy about the prospect of being raped because he had expected to be slaughtered.
“Just move away from him Papi!” Tweener glanced up at T-Bag whose attention had focused onto Michael and Sucre, his voice filled with venom that Tweener hadn’t heard from anyone before.
“Papi?”
“I’d have thought a milk chicken like you would be familiar with the Latino language, I just need that bastard to move away from Michael, just one second.”
“Why?” He didn’t know why he was asking, he’d like to think that he had more sense than that but he was curious, wanting to know why T-Bag had suddenly switched interests from him to Michael.
“Because I want back in the gang, and that’s my only option…” Tweener barely managed to hold back a sigh of relief as the arm was removed, fingertips slowly dragging across his back for good measure. The relief turned slightly into guilt as he saw Sucre walking away from Michael a few seconds before T-Bag settled down next to him but he tried to ignore that as well, he had to save his own skin, he couldn’t worry about Michael’s.
