Challenge - Kellerman & Westmoreland
By - Laura
Notes - Obviously AU considering that they never met lol.
It would have been impossible for him to run very far; especially seeing as everyone knew where he was going but it was still annoying Kellerman. Mainly because it seemed pointless; there were only two convicts that mattered. Even before Mahone had managed to eradicate two of the Fox River Nine there were only two that mattered and now Kim had forced him to take time out from his designated Lance schedule to chase some old man who only cared about visiting his daughter.
He wasn’t even sure why it aggravated him so much, surely Cooper wouldn’t have been alive for much longer; he was old and Mahone was catching up with the convicts faster than anyone had anticipated and it wasn’t as though Cooper was dangerous. He may have accidentally killed the guard that had caught him escaping but that was just once.
And Kellerman had never been a man to look down his nose at someone for murder.
“I’ll cut to the chase here; I’m not interested in you. I only care about Burrows and Scofield. And you are going to tell me where they are.”
“I don’t know where they are.”
“I don’t want to waste time, just tell me where Burrows and Scofield are hiding and this can all be over.”
“Why do I have the feeling that ‘over’ will relate to me turning up in a body bag?”
Kellerman barely managed to suppress a grimace, the man was obviously smarter than had been anticipated but The Company’s rules were clear; the useless seven were all to die and they weren’t to know about their impending deaths.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Abruzzi, David; you’re really trying to tell me that they were both accidents?”
“Tragic accidents,” he was starting to lose his patience now. Technically he could walk right out of the door and leave, he’d already intercepted the prey outside of the hospital doors and now he could go back to finding Burrows and getting his life back on track but for some reason he felt like he couldn’t leave. He was sure that Cooper knew something more than he was letting on. And he had to find it.
“I don’t know where they are so you’re just wasting time questioning me. We parted ways when I got over that wall.”
“Tell me where they are.” He put on his most intimidating tone, wishing that he wasn’t already wearing his sunglasses so that he could have attached them in a menacing manner but he’d have to make do.
“I don’t know.”
This was getting tiresome; every second that he was wasting was more time spent outside of the inner circle, letting Kim push him away from Caroline piece by piece until he would have nothing left but memories of her. He couldn’t let it happen, he just couldn’t.
“Tell me where they are!” He half-screamed the words, unable to hide the emotion breaking through his voice. He watched with satisfaction as Cooper winced at the sound but he knew that his satisfaction wouldn’t last.
“I don’t know where they…”
He grabbed the gun out of his holster, aiming it squarely at Cooper’s head, “tell me where they are or I kill you right now.”
“I don’t know,” there was a hit of desperation in Cooper’s voice but Kellerman pushed it to the back of his mind as he pulled the trigger. Hearing a scramble of chairs outside the door he hit the gun against his own head, barely feeling the pain as the blood began to trickle down.
“Someone get the keys! Quickly!” He could hear the country bumpkin guards at the local jail shouting the order, hurriedly trying to open the door to the interrogation cell and he throw the gun towards Cooper’s limp body, letting it lie haphazardly in his lap as he slumped himself down in his chair, clutching his head as the guards made it in, gasping at the scene in front of them.
“He hit me,” Kellerman moved his hand again, revealing the deep gash that he had made sure would at least need stitches, “then he grabbed my gun and…” He gestured to the corpse and stood up, clutching his head and his stomach, “I’m sorry, I need to get out of here…”
He walked through the crowded doorway, making his way out of the building, thinking about how Kim would be happy; he had reduced the threat to the Fox River Six but now he was back to square one with the hunt for Burrows and Scofield. And although he felt deep down that Cooper had obviously known where they were he found himself slightly regretting that he had died with those secrets.
